Phonological Constraints on the Utterance of L2 Clusters by Saudi ESL Learners

The field of L2 phonology did not receive much research compared to the other linguistic domains. To add and expand current literature, present paper’s goal was examine impact syllable structure differences between Arabic English in uttering consonant clusters. following question aimed be answered: Do two languages’ cause production difficulties cluster Saudi Arabian learners English? subjects this investigation were from with intermediate proficiency levels English. Applying descriptive correlational type model, results showed that learners’ is mainly influenced by their native language-specific phonological features. targeted clusters seemed mirror underlying system, syllables structures modified match system as a result language transfer. These findings should taken into account speech educators such difficulty anticipated.
